Quality / Continuous Improvement Engineer

Location: Dudley Industries, Lytham St Annes, Lancashire FY8 5AT

Are you passionate about precision, "right first time" manufacturing, and driving operational excellence? We are looking for a dedicated Quality Engineer to join our team and play a pivotal role in ensuring our products meet the highest safety and quality standards for our customers.

The successful candidate will be a technical specialist capable of acting as an internal auditor, utilising inspection techniques to identify issues and recommend sustainable, "right first time" solutions.

Job Role Summary

Core Responsibilities:

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Auditing: Serve as the Lead Internal Auditor for ISO 9001:2015, ensuring adherence to the Company Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Documentation: Take ownership of First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and PPAP submissions, ensuring new product introductions meet client specifications.
  • Calibration: Implement and manage a comprehensive database to ensure all precision equipment remains within specified calibration windows.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Lead investigations to identify and eliminate the underlying causes of defects, ensuring permanent resolution.

Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • KPI Management: Develop and maintain metrics for scrap rates, rework costs, and "Right First Time" performance for presentation in monthly management reviews.
  • CAPA Leadership: Evolution of the Non-Conformance Report (NCR) process from a reactive log into a proactive, trend-analysis tool for Corrective and Preventive Actions.
  • Waste Reduction: Identify manufacturing inefficiencies to reduce waste and improve overall throughput.

Technical Design & New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Design Support: Collaborate with the design department on DFM (Design for Manufacture) and DFA (Design for Assembly) to simplify jig designs and mitigate human error.
  • Error Proofing: Design and implement Poka-Yoke inspection controls and visual management tools on the shop floor.
  • Tooling Oversight: Manage the lifecycle of jigs and fixtures, liaising with Engineering from initial concept through to shop-floor implementation.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience: Ideally, a background in a Quality role within an Engineering or Manufacturing environment.
  • For the Experienced Professional: We are looking for a candidate ready to reshape internal processes and influence design-stage quality.
  • For the Graduate: We welcome applications from high-caliber graduates looking to begin their career in a technical engineering environment.
  • Certification: Trained in ISO 9001:2015 with the competency to conduct internal audits.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced problem-solving abilities, document control, and proficiency in professional computer applications.
  • Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of presenting data-driven insights to management.

The role is based at our production facility in Lytham St Annes.

37 hour week / 5 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays.

Annual leave is the equivalent of 5 working weeks plus bank holidays. Some leave is expected to be taken over the Christmas shut down period.
